Tip 1

Winter Flag Care for Commercial & Institutional Properties

Flying a flag year-round requires proactive maintenance—especially during winter months. With the right preparation, organizations can significantly extend the service life of both flags and flagpoles while maintaining a professional appearance.

Cold temperatures, high winds, ice accumulation, and deicing salts can place added stress on flag fabric and hardware systems. During periods of sustained or severe winds, temporarily lowering the flag is a best practice to reduce strain on stitching and attachment points.

Tip 2

Flags should never remain exposed to heavy snow or ice buildup. If a flag becomes wet or frozen, it should be removed and fully dried before reinstallation. Prolonged exposure to moisture in freezing conditions can degrade fibers and shorten lifespan.

Winter is also an ideal time to conduct routine inspections of flagpoles and components. Facilities teams should assess halyards, snaps, pulleys, and moving parts for wear, corrosion, or restricted movement to ensure continued safe operation.

Tip 3

Even premium-grade flags benefit from consistent, thoughtful care. Proper winter handling helps preserve your investment and ensures your flag continues to represent your organization with dignity and pride throughout the year.

If your flag is due for replacement, explore our full selection of commercial-grade flags designed for durability, performance, and long-term use.
